The plaid brooch is used to attach the plaid to the shoulder in men’s formal Highland Dress. Please note, however, it is too large for use on a lady’s ball sash where the better option is the standard clan crest badge/brooch.
The Clan Crest shown on the example is that of Murray of Atholl.
