Brogues

The traditional shoe to wear with the kilt is the Ghillie Brogue. Unlike standard shoes it does not have a tongue and the front of the shoe is  open with tabs containing eyelets for the laces to pass through.

As shown in the illustration at the right, the laces wrap around the ankle twice and are tied in front well above the ankle.  This design is derived from the old Scottishbrogan which was once the standard footwear in the highlands.

The second traditional pattern is the Strap and Buckle brogue which is worn with formal wear.

The standard buckles are plain with a chrome finish. They are easy to remove so you have the option of following the old Scottish custom of replace with them with chased or engraved silver buckles.
